Abstract

Introduction: Human Immunodeficiency Virus infection was identified as the causal agent of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome in the 1980s. The natural development of this infection causes a progressive deterioration of immunity in the patient, mainly due to lysis. of CD4+ lymphocytes, leading the patient to profound immunosuppression that predisposes them to developing opportunistic infections, neurological disorders and malignant neoplasms. Case presentation: A case of a patient with Kaposi sarcoma in the latent clinical stage of HIV infection is presented, which constitutes an atypical behavior of the disease. The diagnosis of the case was confirmed by incisional biopsy and the patient was subjected to the treatment protocol established for these cases, with an adequate response to the antiretroviral therapy treatment and referred for care in a tertiary center for his oncological pathology. Conclusions: A case of HIV infection is presented that, despite maintaining the quantitative parameters of CD4+ count and viral load compatible with a latent clinical stage of the disease, develops a Kaposi sarcoma, having an atypical behavior of the underlying pathology.
