IMPACTO DE LA EPILEPSIA EN LA INFANCIA: DESARROLLO COGNITIVO Y SOCIAL

Introducción: En el Ecuador la epilepsia infantil afecta el desarrollo cognitivo y social, especialmente en la etapa temprana, ya que interrumpe la evolución del lenguaje, la memoria y las habilidades de aprendizaje. Es más frecuente en las zonas rurales debido al déficit de servicios de salud y entre aquellas que señalan la necesidad de un desarrollo integral del niño. Objetivo: A través de un análisis integral, intentar conocer el impacto que impone la epilepsia infantil en el desarrollo cognitivo y social durante la niñez en el Ecuador. Métodos: Se utilizaron las bases de datos SciELO, Science Direct, PubMed, Scopus y Repositories. Resultados: Se identificaron 68 publicaciones de artículos originales y revisiones bibliográficas, de las cuales 31 cumplen con los criterios de inclusión en la investigación. Discusión: La epilepsia en la infancia se ve afectada por el desarrollo cognitivo, social y emocional, perjudicando aspectos relacionados con el lenguaje, la memoria y la concentración. Por otro lado, existe inequidad en el diagnóstico y tratamiento de esta enfermedad en el Ecuador. Esta situación requiere de un abordaje multidisciplinario, intervención temprana y apoyo a la familia y la educación. Conclusión: En el caso de los niños, la epilepsia influye en el desarrollo cognitivo-emocional y social; es necesario brindar una atención multidisciplinaria, personalizada y temprana.
