Introduction: In Ecuador, childhood epilepsy affects cognitive and social development, particularly during early childhood, as it interrupts the evolution of language, memory and learning. This is more common in rural places affected by the lack of health services and points to the need for the comprehensive development of the child. Objective: To comprehensively analyze the impact of childhood epilepsy on cognitive and social development during childhood in Ecuador. Methods: The databases used included: SciELO, Science Direct, PubMed, Scopus and Repositories. Results: 68 publications of original articles and bibliographic reviews were identified, of which 31 met the criteria to be included in the research. Discussion: Epilepsy in childhood affects cognitive, social and emotional progress, affecting aspects such as language, memory and concentration. In Ecuador, inequitable access to diagnosis and therapy represents a challenge, particularly in rural areas. A multidisciplinary perspective, early intervention and family and educational support are essential to enhance the quality of life of those who suffer from it. Conclusion: Epilepsy in children affects cognitive, emotional and social progress, requiring multidisciplinary, personalized and early intervention.
