Dengue patient approach at the first level of care

Abstract

Introduction: Dengue is an infectious disease that presents fever, headache, retro-ocular pain, myalgia, arthralgia and general malaise. It is considered a frequent reason for consultation at the first level of care. In few cases it can lead to a state of shock and death of the patient. Objective: establish a comprehensive approach to patients with dengue at the first level of care. Method: a non-systematic bibliographic review was carried out in databases such as: Up To Date, PubMed, Scielo, Google Scholar, which included the terms Dengue Virus, clinical characteristics, signs of severity, treatment and complications within the first level of care, in languages of English and Spanish. Results: Detailed and explicit information were found on different articles studied in relation to the topic of this bibliographic review study that meet inclusion and exclusion criteria. Discussion: dengue is a febrile illness caused by the virus of the flavivirus genus transmitted by the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which triggers the infection in three phases, which require early diagnosis and stabilization of the patient at the first level of care, taking into account the severity criteria with which the referral would be made to a more complex hospital. Conclusion: Dengue is a viral disease with a higher incidence in first-level care consultations, so it is important to know its clinical characteristics, classification, diagnosis and treatment, as well as criteria for reference at a level of greater complexity.
