Abstract

Introduction: Preterm Premature Rupture of Membranes (PPROM) is the rupture of the chorioamniotic membranes that occurs before the onset of labor in preterm pregnancies. Complications can include chorioamnionitis, prematurity, and other problems associated with these conditions. Objective: To determine the best treatment for cases of preterm premature rupture of membranes according to the most updated scientific evidence available. Methodology: A clinical question was formulated based on the PICO format: What is the most appropriate management for pregnant women with preterm premature rupture of membranes to prevent complications? this facilitated the search for scientific information. Biomedical databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, UpToDate, and DynaMed were used. Results: A total of 452 articles were in different databases. After applying filters, discarding duplicate articles, and excluding those that did not meet inclusion criteria, 36 scientific articles were used a source of information for this research. Discussion: Preterm premature rupture of membranes can cause complications that put maternal and perinatal health at risk. Diagnosis is based on the observation of amniotic fluid leaking through the cervical opening when a vaginal speculum is used, and in cases of uncertainty, immunochromatographic tests can be applied. Conclusions: Appropriate and timely management reduces the complications that can occur due to this pathology.
